Kalshi will automatically apply a default $2,500 monthly deposit limit to accounts held by traders ages 18–20, according to RG. The prediction market announced the protections on Oct. 27, with the cap and a new trade alert expected to roll out in the coming days.
Deposit limits and prompts for concentrated trades
Traders in the affected age group will be placed in special accounts with additional protections and responsible trading education built in.
The new trade alert will prompt a new trader to diversify when their account balance exceeds $1,000 and they put more than 25% of that balance into a single trade.
“Still, we know that young adults are often new to markets and may need more education and safeguards, so we are expanding our protections for this group of users,” Kalshi COO and co-founder Luana Lopes Lara said.
Kalshi said existing safeguards for young adults include interventions ranging from educational resources to trading blocks, limit-setting tools displayed after a first trade, and confidential mental health support through Birches Health. Its Inner Circle feature sends parents or loved ones real-time alerts about how much and how often an 18- to 20-year-old trades.
Age policy draws scrutiny over sports contracts
Kalshi said it verifies users’ ages through Know Your Customer checks and automatically rejects anyone under 18. As a federally regulated financial market, it accepts users ages 18 and older, while most state-regulated casinos and sportsbooks require customers to be 21.
The company also said it is partnering with Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely to publish Parents’ Guides to Prediction Markets, intended to encourage responsible trading habits and keep minors off the platform.
The NBA, PGA Tour and NCAA have urged the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to raise the minimum age for sports contracts to 21.
