West Virginia is an online sports betting state once again. And so, that means that West Virginia is a home for sports betting bonuses and promotions, too.
There are now two excellent online sportsbooks active in West Virginia. The two companies, DraftKings and FanDuel, have terrific opportunities for new players in the Mountain State.
DraftKings Sportsbook WV is the newer of West Virginia’s two online sportsbooks. The site went live on August 28, 2019.
However, this launch is hardly the first rodeo for the company in black-and-green. DraftKings already operates online sportsbooks in other states, and its position in the daily fantasy sports market is well-established.
DraftKings has three different promotions available for new players to take advantage. The first one is the simplest – new account holders receive $25 free in their accounts.
There is no deposit or code required to claim this first perk. Complete the registration process, and the money will be waiting.
Should you decide to deposit, DraftKings will match half that deposit amount with bonus money. The maximum money allowed is $500, so in theory, DraftKings will match any deposit up to $1,000.
As is the case with many deposit bonuses, this one comes with a playthrough requirement. Every $25 wagered on DraftKings will result in the release of a $1 of bonus money.
Given that players will only have 30 days to redeem the bonus, plan accordingly. However, 10% of the cash immediately hits players’ accounts, and the rest comes in steady drips.
Finally, DraftKings will also refund a losing first bet up to $200. In other words, players who lose their first bet are subject to a rebate on their stake. Of course, they keep their winnings if they win.
DraftKings also offers a plethora of other bonus options for players in West Virginia. These include deposit bonus offers, insurance, and most importantly, odds boosts.
Odds boosts are promotions in which the site picks certain contests and moves the lines on them artificially. The odds move is always in the favor of the player, meaning that the favorites will have fewer points to beat the spread, and the underdog will have more leeway in the margin.
These types of bonuses are almost always a good bet to make. After all, there’s a reason that the sportsbook will limit the amount of betting to some relatively low amount.
DraftKings will have one of these bets running frequently. There will always be plenty of options there.
FanDuel Sportsbook WV marked the return of online sports betting to West Virginia when it launched in August 2019. The pioneer of daily fantasy sports ended the months-long drought for the Mountain State, which saw its only provider, BetLucky, come to a crashing halt in March 2019.
FanDuel has had a presence in West Virginia for some time now. It is the sports betting provider for the Greenbrier Resort, and this online venture is simply an extension of that.
The welcome bonus at FanDuel is a simple one. However, don’t mistake that simplicity for a lack of quality.
New players to FanDuel will receive a free first bet. The bet is good up to $500.
The most well-known of FanDuel’s other bonuses is its daily odds boost. FanDuel makes sure to have fresh boosted odds options every single day of the year.
There are always other bonus types lurking around the site, of course. Deposit bonuses and insurance on various bets are common and easily found.
One unique twist on bonuses that FanDuel offers is parlay insurance. This news should be welcome news to fans of the multi-step bet.
The problem with parlays is that they must win every single leg in order to qualify for a payout. Any loss at any point means that the sportsbook prevails.
So, in order to assuage some of those fears, FanDuel will refund bets up to a certain amount on parlays. Although the big payout chance is gone on the parlay, at least the player can break even.

Many of our bonuses are exclusive to PlayWV.com readers and are better than the standard offer.
It’s important to note that bonuses are not “free” money. Bonuses come with certain terms and conditions and may limit your ability to cash out. It is important that you understand the requirements for a bonus before you sign up. We try to make those requirements clear. If you have questions. please feel free to contact us.
There are several types of sports betting bonuses that can increase your sports betting bankroll in one way or another. Which promotions you choose is a personal choice and based on what matters most to you and the terms and conditions of the bonus.
Here are some of the different types of sports betting offers:
Matched bonuses give the player a percentage of his or her deposit in ‘promotional cash’. For example, a player making a $20 bet with a 100% matched bonus is given an additional $20 to bet with. He or she would be able to make either two $20 bets or a $40 bet. As a player, make sure you know the matching percentage. Don’t assume that all matching bonuses are 100%.
Free bets are similar to matching bonuses. They are given as ‘promotional’ cash and are risk-free bets. You’ll place a bet through the mobile app using the promotional cash. If you lose, you only lose the promotional cash.
Free bets do have a difference from matching bonuses. If you win you have to pay back the promotional cash.
For example, if you sign up and receive twenty dollars in free bets and make a bet that nets $30, you will receive only $10. You won $30 but you have to pay back the $20 given to you by the book.
Sportsbetting operators have to make a profit to stay in business, so they can’t offer endless matched bonuses or free bets forever. Typically, any bonus will have a limit or cap. This limits how much the operator will match or give away, or cap how much you can claim.
If it’s not clearly stated look for the small print that states any limits. It will look something like this, “Make your first deposit and receive a 100% match up to $250.” In this example, the sports betting venue limits (stops) matching after you’ve bet $250.
Or the amount you can claim may be capped. If you deposit $300 with a 50% matching bonus and won a 2.0 odds, you’d expect to make up to $450 (your $300 + $150 in bonus). But if it comes with a $100 cap this means you can only receive $100 from the matching money, not $150. Your payout would be $400, not $450.
Matching bonuses and free bets usually have expiration times. This just means any free promotional cash must either be used in the allotted time or winnings paid in promotional cash claimed in the allotted time. Expiry times are usually from 10 to 30 days.
The typical fine prints will say something like this, “Players must activate and play through the bonus money within 30 days after being credited with the bonus money, otherwise it will expire.”
The purpose of rollover requirements is to protect the sportsbook from players taking advantage of the free money it is giving away.
Rollover stipulations require you to bet a minimum amount before promotional winnings can the collected. This helps the sportsbook retain new players, which is the reason they offer matching bonuses and free bets, and stop players from gaming the system.
How it works. A player may receive a $20 matching bonus with an industry standard 5x rollover. In this case, the player would need to bet at a minimum of $100 ($20 X 5) before being able to collect promotional winnings.
Usually, rollover requirements only apply to the promotional cash, but read the fine print. Some sportsbooks apply the rollover requirement to the initial deposit along with the promotional cash.
Some welcome offers restrict on what bets you can place promotional cash. Not surprisingly they require the placement of bets on low-odd plays. Its all about finding the right mix of odds requirements and rollover requirements. Typically, if the rollover requirement is minimal then the odds requirement is likely strict, and vice-versa.
To qualify for a bonus, a minimum deposit is always necessary. It varies by sports book operators but is usually reasonable. If the one you are looking at is more than you want to start with, find one with a lower amount.
A typical welcome offer will begin with the opening of a new account and a minimum deposit of $50. It comes with a 20% matching bonus. Therefore, you will receive $10 in promotional cash on the $50 deposit. It has a $100 limit, so for any deposit over $500 you will only receive $100 in promotional cash.
You must first bet the deposit amount, $50, and then you may use the matching bonus of $10. You have 30 days to use your bonus promotional cash or it expires.
You may use the matching promotional cash on any wager offered.
In this case, the low match is offset by low rollover requirement and the ability to have unrestricted bets.
Terms and conditions apply with most promotions. These terms aren’t necessarily the same at every WV online sportsbook, but you should familiarize yourself with the most common terms:
How you claim a bonus varies by sportsbook. Some are automatic and you don’t have to take any specific action. Sometimes, however, you’ll have to enter a specific code when depositing. Other times you might be required to send an email to customer support.
Understanding the requirements of each bonus offer is important. Sometimes you’ll have to meet specific conditions and see the bonus offer added to your account after you have met them.
The primary reason sportsbooks offer bonus codes is to earn your business. They also offer bonuses and promotions as a way of retaining customers.
If you have a problem with a bonus code, your best course of action is to contact customer support at the sportsbook. There is access to support inside your mobile app.
