Pennsylvania is still setting the pace in US online casino revenue in 2026, but Michigan has made the race much tighter. Through the first five months of the year, Pennsylvania generated $1.58 billion in online casino revenue, compared with $1.50 billion for Michigan and $1.32 billion for New Jersey.
That gap is much narrower than it was a year ago. For PlayWV readers tracking the broader iGaming market, the latest numbers offer a useful snapshot of where the biggest legal states stand and how operator changes can quickly shift revenue trends.
Pennsylvania remains on top
In 2025, Pennsylvania led the three biggest markets covered here with $3.46 billion in online casino revenue. Michigan followed at $3.09 billion, while New Jersey posted $2.91 billion.
At that point, Pennsylvania was 12% ahead of Michigan and 18.9% ahead of New Jersey. Through May 2026, Pennsylvania still holds first place, but Michigan has cut the deficit to 5.3%.
Monthly figures show how close the two markets have become. Pennsylvania brought in $316.2 million in January, $300.6 million in February, $330.8 million in March, $311.8 million in April, and $321.1 million in May. Michigan posted $298.3 million, $273.1 million, $322.1 million, $303.4 million, and $305.8 million over those same months.
Michigan has not passed Pennsylvania in any month in 2026, but it has stayed within striking distance.
New Jersey losing ground
New Jersey remains one of the country’s largest online casino markets, but it has fallen further behind the top two in 2026. Through May, the state’s total reached $1.32 billion, leaving it 19.7% behind Pennsylvania and 13.6% behind Michigan.
Its monthly revenue came in at $258.9 million in January, $251.8 million in February, $272.1 million in March, $263.1 million in April, and $276.3 million in May.
Operator changes helped Michigan
One of the clearest takeaways from the latest comparison is how much new brands can affect a mature market.
Hard Rock Casino launched in Michigan in December, replacing SI Casino. According to the source report, Hard Rock has been producing more than $20 million a month, while SI Casino had been bringing in under $1 million.
bet365 Casino also launched in Michigan in April, replacing PokerStars Casino. The report says bet365 generated more than $11 million in its first full month, while PokerStars had been producing about $2 million a month.
The article estimates those two operator changes alone added roughly $25 million to $30 million to Michigan’s online casino revenue.
What players should watch
For players following online gambling trends, this is less about a single month and more about market direction. Pennsylvania still leads, but Michigan’s recent gains show how quickly the standings can tighten when new operators enter and underperforming brands are replaced.
The next key question is whether Michigan can keep closing the gap in the months ahead. West Virginia does not factor into these revenue totals, but the movement in larger legal iGaming states is still worth watching as a measure of broader industry momentum. As always, gamble responsibly.
