Georgia Rep. Al Williams has been appointed president of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, succeeding West Virginia Delegate Shaun Fluharty.
NCLGS said Williams was chosen at its summer conference. He had served as president-elect since 2023 and will lead the organization during the 2026-27 term. NCLGS describes itself as a forum for legislators who work on gaming policy in their state houses, rather than a lobbying group.
The group said its officers are elected at its annual summer gathering, and that its executive committee is made up of lawmakers who handle gaming legislation in their states. Fluharty will remain involved as an officer during the 2026-27 term, alongside NCLGS founder Steve Geller.
“I am deeply honored to serve as President of NCLGS and grateful for the confidence my fellow legislators have placed in me,” Williams said. He added that the group would remain “the trusted voice for legislators navigating new technologies, emerging markets, and evolving regulatory challenges.”
Fluharty said he was confident that under Williams’ leadership, NCLGS would remain “at the forefront of responsible gaming policy development.”
The 2026-27 officer lineup also includes Jason Barrett, Michael Finn, Stephanie Sawyer Clayton and Bill DeMora.
