When sports betting became legal in West Virginia in August 2018, William Hill was quick to pounce.
Its branded live sportsbook debuted in November that year. This global betting giant is partners with the Mountaineer Casino in northern West Virginia.
William Hill’s experience running live sportsbooks in other states ensured it would hit the ground running.
An online sports betting site will soon complement its live WV sportsbook, which will allow mobile betting within state lines on a full range of sports.
Soon, you can access William Hill via an app or the responsive website. Innovations, including cash-out and in-play betting, will boost your experience.
We share comprehensive details on William Hill WV Sportsbook here.
This prelaunch information is based on a successful launch in neighboring states and the international site. First, we cover the generous bonuses and promotions. Next, we discover software, sports, bet types and deposit methods in-depth.
Toward the end, you’ll read more about the live William Hill Sportsbook at the Mountaineer Casino.
|WV Sportsbook||William Hill Sportsbook|
|Free Bet Offer||TBA|
|Additional Bonus Offer||TBA|
|Last Updated||September 11, 2019|
As a new customer, you receive TBA in free bets at William Hill when you place $50 in bets. To claim this, use the promo code TBA.
There is no need to bet $50 all at once as this is the cumulative total.
For example, you could bet $10 five times to hit the target.
Your bonus bets will arrive in your account within 14 days of completing the qualifying bet. However, the credits are for betting only; you can’t withdraw them directly.
While not the most prominent “headline-grabbing” bonus, this is one of the most straightforward offers from regulated sportsbooks: Once you bet $50, you get $50.
With all five qualifying West Virginia casinos operating three online skins, the betting market in the Mountain State could get competitive. This rivalry will be good for WV bettors who can take advantage of ongoing sportsbook offers to retain customers.
William Hill often features promotions tied to its in-play (live) betting option. One promo includes a routine 10% back on any losses each week on in-play bets.
Other promotions go with major sporting events on the calendar.
A look at William Hill’s international site shows some innovative advertisements. These include “Your Odds,” which are enhanced odds offers tied a wide range of sports. There are also boosts applied to parlays, which have three or more legs.
We don’t know yet whether William Hill will introduce a loyalty point scheme for its sportsbook in West Virginia.
You can complete the registration via the app or website. This process is easy; you must provide your full name, date of birth, address and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
The email confirmation is part of the process, and you can use two-factor authentication to secure your account further.
Backup documentation will only be necessary for a security check, which is not part of the standard registration process.
When you visit the William Hill website, you will see three options:
You will be able to access the website via your mobile device. The site will adjust to your screen and input method.
This section is divided into four parts to help you quickly get up to speed with how William Hill Sportsbook will work in West Virginia.
First, is how to get around the website, and we explain the key areas and functions.
Secondly, you will find the sports options available.
Thirdly, we share the types of bets you can place.
Fourthly, you will learn how to make a deposit (and withdraw your winnings).
With so many sports, bets and promotions, there is a lot to cram into one site.
William Hill shares decades of international experience doing precisely this. As a result, its website and app are easy to use.
Only a few options are at the top of the website. William Hill has moved many of these to the left-side column, which remains in place wherever you go, helping you jump from section to section quickly.
You will see the “Log In” and “Register” buttons on the top left. These change to “Account” and “Cashier” after you log in.
You will see a responsible gaming badge and link, a toggle for the odds format and “Help” and “Feedback” menu here.
On the left, you’ll see a “Home” link at the top.
Most books list the popular sports directly under this at the top, left-hand side. Instead, William Hill starts with links for in-play, search and promotions.
In-play betting is repeatedly at the top of the “Popular” list, which follows. If you click it, you will see the middle of the screen hosts options for games that are currently live. On game day, you’ll see a lot of fixtures here, along with sport-by-sport navigation options.
The remainder of popular’s list covers the major sports that are currently in-season. Below, is an A-Z list of games that offers more options.
When you click on a sport on the left side, the menu expands (and the new section becomes dark blue) with options for upcoming events, in-play or futures bets.
The middle section lists the upcoming games, along with moneyline, spreads and totals. You’ll see a number in yellow below each game; this is how many more bets you’ll see for that fixture.
Where sports have multiple leagues or betting options, tabs appear at the top of the middle section to help you navigate.
With so many options, the search option on the top left is often the best way to find specific fixtures.
As usual for online sportsbooks, your bet slip is on the right side.
This area is divided between the slip, which you can add bets to, and “Open Bets,” which shows you the bets you placed that are not yet resolved.
While William Hill doesn’t have an extensive list of niche sports from every angle of the world, but a lot of the popular formats are available. The majors switch around, depending on what is in-season.
You will find all of the divisions, conferences, minor and college leagues.
Soccer is prominent, and William Hill covers the major European and worldwide leagues as well as MLS.
You will also find boxing, MMA and UFC betting options, motorsports (under “Auto”), tennis and golf.
Note that unlike the international William Hill Sportsbook, horse and greyhound racing are not available. These are covered separately, with specialist sites, including BetAmerica and TwinSpires offering advanced deposit wagering, which uses pari-mutuel pool betting.
You will see live betting all over the William Hill website.
This feature allows you to place the regular bets while games are underway. The odds will adjust depending on the action, for example, early points or key players leaving the field.
Cash-out betting is available internationally, though we don’t know whether this will come to the state-regulated sportsbook. This feature allows you to redeem bets at any time before or during a game. The site will automatically calculate a price for redeeming your bet, which you can then accept or reject and allow your bet to run.
All the major betting markets for singles and multiples are available at William Hill. Here are the main types:
Many other bets are sport-specific.
Bets can be season-long, e.g., conference winners, or can cover the totals for the entire game day, e.g., baseball’s Grand Salami.
William Hill doesn’t have the full range of banking options that some sportsbooks in West Virginia offer.
Currently, only credit cards, including the William Hill-branded debit card and limited bank transfers are available.
Other books include e-wallets, ACH transfers, bill pay, bank wires and cash payments as deposit options.
Watch this space for an update on the banking options when this West Virginia online sportsbook goes live.
You’ll find a detailed “Help” page at William Hill.
It provides useful information on geo-compliance (proving you are located inside West Virginia to place bets), security and taxation.
It is worth browsing this before you start betting to familiarize yourself with the betting rules and terms.
If you would prefer to involve a customer service agent, there are three ways to do this. You can use a live chat, email or telephone.
Responsible gambling is a set of policies to protect those with gambling issues.
Compared to many online sportsbooks, William Hill provides a lot of information on this topic. It includes a complaints process if you are unhappy with any aspect of the service, plus information on keeping your account safe.
Here are the elements to help protect problem gamblers:
The Mountaineer Casino has a thoroughbred racetrack, too. It is in New Cumberland, WV, along the Ohio River. This venue opened in 1951 and went on to become one of the busiest racetracks in the US.
In 2018, William Hill partnered with the resort to open a sportsbook. The retail book features a massive video wall, allowing visitors to follow multiple games while they bet.
It is open from 10 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. at weekends, closing between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m.
You can bet on football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, boxing, MMA and auto racing.
There is a lot to like about William Hill. It has decades of experience with live and online betting, and bring all of this to a simple, clean interface on its online sportsbook.
You’ll get an easy welcome bonus, with TBA in bet credits coming your way once you complete $50 in wagering.
Money-back for in-play betting is a great way to boost your bankroll, though we have yet to see what other promotions will be available in West Virginia.
William Hill provides in-depth coverage of major sports, with many games having a choice of 15+ bets. While the banking options are limited, credit cards and e-checks will have most people covered.
