West Virginia sports betting apps have a ton of room to grow with three online licenses allocated to each of the five WV sportsbooks.
Two of those apps – the DraftKings Sportsbook App and the FanDuel Sportsbook App – are already taking mobile sports bets in WV.

WV sports betting launched in Aug. 2018 and sports betting apps soon followed in Dec. 2018. BetLucky Sportsbook was West Virginia’s first sports betting app but was shut down after just a couple of months due to a disagreement between the owner and the technology provider.
In Aug 2019 FanDuel Sportsbook WV and DraftKings Sportsbook WV filled the void with their sports betting apps just ahead of the NFL and College Football seasons.
Both of them have easy-to-use interfaces and multiple betting options that are perfectly suited to betting on your phone from anywhere in WV.
The DraftKings Sportsbook app has been up and running in New Jersey for over a year and has been one of the leaders in online revenue since it launched. Expectations in West Virginia are for more of the same.
Over 20,000 bets were placed on the WV DraftKings Sportsbook App over its first weekend and that will only grow as the NFL betting season progresses and betting on the Super Bowl reaches its peak.
College Football (especially WVU Mountaineer football), the MLB playoffs and World Series and the coming NBA and NHL seasons add even more spots for WV bettors to find lines they like.
DraftKings’ mobile sports betting partner in West Virginia is Penn National Gaming, the operator of Hollywood Casino Sportsbook. Find more on the features of the DraftKings app via the review page:
The FanDuel Sportsbook app is also one of the top-grossing mobile apps in the NJ online betting markets. Each month it’s near the top for revenue and total handle.
In West Virginia, FanDuel has partnered with The Greenbrier Resort for both its retail and online sportsbooks. The FanDuel Sportsbook mobile app debuted at the end of August 2019 and has already made inroads in bringing in hungry WV mobile sports bettors.

William Hill Sportsbook is a fixture in Nevada as well as in NJ and PA. It services multiple sportsbooks in those states and will in WV, too.
William Hill is currently partners with both the Hollywood Casino Sportsbook and the Mountaineer Sportsbook. The timetable for the release of a William Hill Sportsbook app in West Virginia is still to be determined.
West Virginia online casinos became legal on March 27, 2019, when Gov. Jim Justice failed to act on the bill passed by the legislature earlier in the month.
The law allows each of the five WV casinos a license to launch online casino games. Players can expect games similar to those found in a brick-and-mortar casino, including:
Look for legal online casinos in West Virginia to go live in 2021.
Mobile sports betting apps give you everything you’d find at a land-based sportsbook without having to physically be in the sportsbook to place a bet.
As long as you’re within the border of West Virginia, you can bet on anything you’d be able to in the sportsbook itself. Bet from your couch as you’re watching the game, on the road to a live sporting event or anywhere in between.
Generally speaking, an online sportsbook is what you access on your computer via a web browser and a betting app is accessed from your smartphone or tablet. Typically, you’ll be required to download a specialized application to your iPhone/iPad or Android device. You can, however, access an online sportsbook on your phone or tablet by using a web browser too.
The differences in the betting process and experience are minimal. While the overall appearance on your computer will be wider and more spread out, you don’t miss out on any of the features or betting options using the app.
A sports betting app is simply formatted to fit a phone or tablet’s dimensions better. It also allows for swiping and tapping to access the bets you want.
Both are equally secure when it comes to financial transactions (deposits/withdrawals) or personal info. In fact, using the more streamlined betting app from an online sportsbook is often preferable for ease-of-use and for taking on the road with you.
There is a long list of phones and tablets that will work with sportsbook apps. Pretty much any type of newer device that is running the updated versions of iOS or Android should work. You can access sports betting apps on:
Sportsbook apps have their own geolocation software that works with the location services in your phone to determine your location. In order to geo-locate, you must have the location services on your mobile app turned on.
You must be within the state of West Virginia to use mobile gambling apps but you don’t need to be a resident of the state to open an account at a sportsbook.
The betting lineup at both DraftKings and FanDuel is extensive and runs from the Big 4 – NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL – to NCAA football to Golf, MMA, Boxing, Tennis and beyond.
The range of bet types is equally extensive – everything from futures (eg. which team will win the Super Bowl, who will win the MVP award) to teasers & parlays to moneyline, point spreads, prop bets and more.
There are no limitations on your betting options by using the app over the full website. All bets available on the sportsbook you can find and place bets on through the app.

There are no additional costs for wagering via a mobile betting app. If you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network, though, you pay any extra data costs from your service provider based on your plan and data limits.
As opposed to betting from your desktop or in person, the mobile app is extremely quick and easy to use without any additional add-ons. Your account is also just as secure on your phone or tablet as it is on your home computer.
