What To Bet On At WV Sportsbooks: NASCAR, Rocket Mortgage Classic, MLS Is Back

WV sportsbooks betting preview for July 4 weekend

Independence Day weekend 2020 may not have the normal robust offering of a typical West Virginia sporting betting weekend. However, the Rocket Mortgage Classic still offers some robust action for bettors.

Also presenting some options at WV sportsbooks this weekend is the Big Machine 400. The coming weekend is the last before the return of North American men’s club soccer as well.

Rocket Mortgage Classic boosts and odds on WV sports betting apps

All three mobile sports betting apps in WV have action on the latest iteration of the PGA’s revised schedule. This includes special promotions only available for a limited time.

BetMGM Sportsbook WV has boosted odds on a market involving seven contenders in the field. The wagers are on whether the listed players will finish the first round without a bogey. Bryson DeChambeau has the shortest odds at +300 and Brendon Todd has the longest at +600.

DraftKings Sportsbook WV also has a special for the first round of play at the Detroit Golf Club.

It’s a 30% profit boost identical to that which the sportsbook offered for last week’s RBC Heritage.

FanDuel Sportsbook isn’t offering any promos specific to this weekend’s golf action but has a wealth of prop wagers available. For example, Rickie Fowler is +500 to lead the field after round one at the online sportsbook right now.

Handicapping this event may prove tricky because it’s lonely at the top. Only half of the FedEx Cup standings’ top 20 are participating this weekend, meaning there is more opportunity for golfers who bettors may not be as familiar with to place highly.

2019 winner Nate Lashley is in the field, but his chances of defending his title appear troubled. Lashley missed the cut at both the Charles Schwab Challenge and RBC Heritage.

While Lashley could be on a cold streak, DeChambeau is among the hottest golfers in the world right now. He has finished in the top 10 at the last three PGA Tour events. Another golfer may catch bettors’ eyes due to his strong metrics, however.

Webb Simpson is arguably the PGA’s best in the short game on Bermuda grass right now. He also has a recent win, the RBC Heritage, under his belt. Accordingly, these two have the shortest odds in outright markets on all three WV sports betting apps, with DraftKings listing them as +600 co-favorites.

The next focus of betting action is just south of Detroit, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Unlike the Rocket Mortgage Classic, however, this event features all of NASCAR‘s biggest names.

Big Machine 400 lines and markets at WV sportsbooks

The Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 will present one driver with the opportunity to kiss the bricks on Independence Day weekend. Clever WV sports betting fans might want to similarly kiss their phones on Sunday.

BetMGM and DraftKings have Kevin Harvick as their favorite to win at +400, while FanDuel lists Harvick as a +450 co-favorite with Denny Hamlin. It’s easy to see why.

Harvick has two career wins at the Brickyard on his career list, including one just last year. Perhaps of greater importance, however, he has three wins this season in conditions similar to Sunday’s.

Hamlin represents the best challenge to Harvick because he has four wins and nine top-five finishes so far this season. His track record on this track is anything but sterling, however. Hamlin averages 12th place in 14 races at the Brickyard.

WV mobile sports betting apps aren’t offering any promotions for the Big Machine 400, but BetMGM has several race props. These include the number of the winning car and whether the winner will lead both stages.

NASCAR and the PGA may be the premier men’s sporting events in North America this weekend. They won’t be without a challenge to that distinction much longer.

MLS is Back futures for WV sports bettors

Major League Soccer is set to tentatively resume its 2020 season starting Wednesday. All three WV sports betting apps offer not only futures but lines on the first few days of matches as well.

Three regional clubs will take part in the month-long MLS is Back tournament in Orlando, FL. FC Cincinnati, the Columbus Crew, and the Philadelphia Union sit in very different places in those markets, however.

ClubTo win at BetMGMTo win at DraftKingsTo win at FanDuel
Philadelphia Union+1600+1400+1400
Columbus Crew+2000+2200+2100
FC Cincinnati+6600+8000+5000

The Union starts their tourney on Thursday, July 9 against New York City FC. The vig on either side to win that match is currently very small, with only FanDuel making Philadelphia a very slight favorite.

The Columbus Crew and FC Cincinnati face each other to start their journeys on July 11. Columbus is currently a heavy favorite to win that match at all three books.

In similar ways, there are heavy favorites for both the Rocket Mortgage Classic and Big Machine 400 this weekend. WV sports bettors have to choose between those safe plays or taking some greater risks.
