Where To Bet and Watch March Madness in West Virginia

WV March Madness betting

March Madness cranks up with Selection Sunday this weekend, and West Virginia sportsbooks are coming along for the ride for the very first time.

Who will take home the title of national champion? Will it be a traditional power like Duke or Kentucky?

Can Villanova repeat and take a second-straight title? Can Tennessee continue its huge season or will another team emerge when play gets underway?

Many West Virginians will be watching and are ready for the action. This year will be a bit different as West Virginia sports betting allows fans to place bets beyond traditional bracket pools. They can wager on who will win that first-round matchup or make it to the Final Four.

Unfortunately, WV sports bettors were dealt a blow late last week, which changes the game. Here is your WV March Madness sports betting guide.

Where to bet on March Madness in WV

All five of the West Virginia casinos now have sportsbooks. Unfortunately, only three of them are operational heading into March Madness.

Two weeks before the start of the NCAA tournament, Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island Hotel ceased operations due to a contract dispute between their technology supplier, Miomni Gaming and a third-party provider.

Also caught up in the dispute is BetLucky Sportsbook, WV only mobile sports betting app. BetLucky took to Twitter to try and answer some questions, but they fell a bit short.

That leaves West Virginia two sportsbooks short and no mobile sports betting option heading into one of the most popular sports betting events of the year.

The good news is there are still three active sportsbooks vying for your attention.

Hollywood Casino Sportsbook

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races (Ranson) – This was the first sportsbook in the state to open, and is the clear leader among WV sportsbooks. The sportsbook is located just off the casino floor near Skybox Sports Bar.

It offers 24 odds-display monitors and 50 feet of wall space with 80-inch TVs for checking out the action on the court.

The property’s location may make it a popular destination for players in Maryland, as it is within an hour drive from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

To sweeten the pot, Hollywood Casino is hosting a $1 Million Championship Bracket Challenge. Here’s how it works:

  1. Visit on-site kiosks for a code before March 21
  2. Sometime between March 17-21, enter your code on the website and select your bracket
  3. Pick a perfect bracket and win $1 million

Sixteen players with the most correct outcomes receive prizes. Prizes include:

  • 1st and 2nd place: $1,000 Free SlotPlay
  • 3rd-6th place: $750 Free SlotPlay
  • 7th-16th place: $500 Free SlotPlay

Mountaineer Casino Sportsbook

Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort (New Cumberland) – The William Hill sportsbook offers plenty of action and amenities for every level of bettor.

William Hill is a leader in sports wagering, and bettors can expect a top-notch experience. Make your picks and check out the action. The property is located right between Ohio and Pennsylvania and no doubt some out-of-towners will make the short drive to place some basketball wagers.

While the sportsbook itself is not offering a bracket challenge, the casino is promoting March Mania.

Winners will have a chance to earn Free Play by picking the winning teams on Sunday, March 24 and March 31, 2019.

Four winners will be drawn for $250 in Free Play from the correct outcomes at the end of the half for the 12 p.m., 4 p.m., and 8 p.m. games. And one lucky winner will be drawn from the winning team’s drum end of the game for $500 in Free Play.

The Greenbrier

The Greenbrier (White Sulphur Springs) – This property has partnered with FanDuel WV for its sportsbook lounge, which is located in The Casino Club.

FanDuel brings plenty of experience to the sports wagering industry, and bettors will enjoy making those basketball selections. Greenbrier is located on the state’s southeast border, ideal for Virginians to make a short trip north for some March Madness action.

The Greenbrier and FanDuel are gearing up for a “viewing party to remember.” Greenbrier is offering a special $400, four-night room rate. With that, guests can venture into the sportsbook for all the March Madness excitement, plus:

  • FanDuel swag
  • Complimentary daily breakfast
  • Daily bracket competitions
  • $100 golf rate for use before, between or after games
