On the heels of a record-breaking month in October, West Virginia online casino operators had another strong November. They generated $14.4 million in revenue, which is the second-highest total of all time.
The end of the year has been kind to WV online casinos. Players are showing that the fall months are when revenue pours in.
West Virginia online casinos post second-highest revenue total ever in November
Despite it being hard to follow up a record month of revenue, the Mountain State did just that in November. After posting $14.4 million in monthly earnings, November is the third time operators exceeded $14 million in a single month this year. West Virginia produced $14.2 million in March.
The summer months had been slow for the state, accumulating the following revenue figures:
- June: $12 million
- July: $11.4 million
- August: $11.6 million
Revenue shot up to $12.7 million in September and then set a monthly record of $15.5 million last month. Here is the distribution of earnings by license:
- The Greenbrier (FanDuel WV Casino, BetMGM WV Casino, Golden Nugget WV Casino): $6.1 million
- Hollywood Casino Charles Town (DraftKings WV Casino, PointsBet WV Casino, Barstool WV Casino): $5.3 million
- Mountaineer Casino (Caesars WV Casino, BetRivers WV Casino): $2.5 million
- Mardi Gras Casino (Betly WV Casino): $543,814
Online casinos dominate fall months in WV
In each of the last two years, the fall is when online casinos seem to find another gear. It makes sense, since the summer consists of vacations and a light sports calendar. However, the fall months beat out the first-quarter months, too, when there is a larger sports slate.
Here are the revenue totals for each quarter from 2022 and this year:
2022
- Q1: $24.9 million
- Q2: $24.6 million
- Q3: $28.9 million
- Q4: $33.9 million
2023
- Q1: $39.2 million
- Q2: $36.6 million
- Q3: $35.7 million
- Q4: $44.9 million (projection)
After the first two months of Q4 resulted in two of the largest totals ever for West Virginia, the state is projected to have the best quarter of the year, just as it did in 2022.
