The Mountaineers are back in action for their first real test of the 2020 college football season this weekend, which is one of several potentially interesting plays for West Virginia bettors this weekend.
WVU is an underdog for its road trip to Oklahoma State, which is more than a little understandable given Mike Gundy’s success against the Mountaineers. The Cowboys are riding a five-game winning streak in the series.
The cruelest of those outcomes came in West Virginia’s last trip to Stillwater, which saw the Mountaineers squander a 17-point lead in a 45-41 loss. That loss ultimately cost WVU a trip to the Big 12 championship game.
That game is the only one in Oklahoma State’s current streak that was decided by less than a touchdown. FanDuel and BetMGM West Virginia Sportsbook have the Mountaineers as 6.5-point underdogs, while DraftKings WV Sportsbook has the line set at 7.5 in favor of the Cowboys. Those lines opened up at 8, so many bettors have shown faith that WVU will at least be able to keep it close.
Oklahoma State’s lackluster performance against Tulsa in last week’s season opener is no doubt a factor. With quarterback Spencer Sanders injured early in the game, OSU’s normally potent offense sputtered before finally pulling away for a 16-7 win over the unheralded Golden Hurricane.
West Virginia had the week off after opening the season with a 56-10 squashing of Eastern Kentucky.

Thursday Night Football
Those looking to get an early start on the weekend will have a pair of interesting promotions available for the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Dolphins and Jaguars.
FanDuel is offering $10 in site credit for anyone who places a three-leg parlay of at least $20 in the game, win or lose. So if you want to bet on the spread, over-under, and a player prop, half of your tab is covered even if you miss out on hitting the parlay.
DraftKings has been running a promo on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday night games that is a fun play with a chance to pay big. For up to $20, you can bet on the first player to score a touchdown. If he scores at any point in the game, you get your money back. Jaguars running back James Robinson has the lowest odds at +750, which would equate to a $170 payout on that $20 bet if he’s the first in the end zone.
The rest of the weekend
The action no longer stops when a game starts — live, in-game betting has become a popular way to make up for your losses or attempt to add to your winnings.
BetMGM knows this, offering $20 in live betting credits to anyone who places at least $50 on an in-game bet this weekend.
As always, there are appealing promotions for newcomers. FanDuel ups the ante on BetMGM’s $500 bonus bet with up to $1,000 returned on your first bet if it fails — payable, of course, in site credits.
DraftKings offers the best return on investment for novice bettors this weekend. A $1 bet on any NFL game or the UFC 253 bout between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa will net $100 if you win. All you have to do is deposit $5 or more to be eligible. You don’t have to bet the point spread, either. A moneyline bet on the Colts to beat the Jets, which would pay just 21 cents to anyone else, will net $100 to a newcomer should Indianapolis win.
