Break Out The Beads: Mardi Gras Is Coming To Mardi Gras Casino In WV

Written By Chris Imperiale on February 15, 2019 - Last Updated on March 15, 2023

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, which pays tribute to the last night of eating, drinking and partying with friends before the Christian season of Lent begins. Mardi Gras Carnival celebrations happen around the world, even in West Virginia casinos.

Needless to say, West Virginia’s Mardi Gras Casino will be hosting fun-filled, celebratory Mardi Gras festivities for its customers. The celebration happens on March 5, 2019.

Mardi Gras Casino Celebrates Mardi Gras

The Mardi Gras celebration at Mardi Gras casino takes place from 7 p.m. until midnight on Fat Tuesday.

The New Orleans-themed casino will have a six-member Dixieland jazz band performing on the main casino floor cranking out tunes either above the Bourbon Street Bar or the Player’s Club until 10 p.m.

The casino will be keeping in the tradition of the Krewes, the name of the clubs that organize the New Orleans festivities. Costumed showgirls will be passing out gold, green, and purple beads, a tradition that began in New Orleans in the 1880s, and Free Play casino handouts for those showing their Mardi Gras spirit.

At around 8 p.m. you might be wise to stop inside the casino’s “premier entertainment lounge,” Louie’s Lounge. The drinks will be flowing as Mardi Gras is offering special $1 Hurricane cocktails and Beignets. Because what New Orleans inspired celebration would be complete with Beignets?

At 9 p.m., a live DJ will really get the party started inside Louie’s. They’ll be mixing all of your favorite beats until the event comes to a close.

Sports Betting at Mardi Gras Casino on Mardi Gras

For sports fans needing a break from the celebration, a visit into one of the more popular WV sportsbooks, Mardi Gras Sportsbook might be in order. There will be plenty of action on the court and the ice. The NBA has six games on its schedule and the NHL has eight. There is even an evening MLB Spring Training game on the schedule.

West Virginia’s own WVU and Marshall are not taking to the court on Mardi Gras.  You can, however, get your bets in as both teams are in action on March 6.

Mardi Gras has WV sports betting app through BetLucky Sportsbook to make sports betting easier. Secure your bets ahead of time and watch the outcome unfold. At the end of it all, hopefully, you’ll be holding a winning betting slip that you can cash in.

King Cake Contest at Mardi Gras Casino

The most exciting part of the evening might just be the King Cake Contest.

The King Cake tradition began about 300 years ago when a baby doll was placed inside the cake to represent Jesus. Today, the doll symbolizes luck and prosperity to whoever finds the doll in their piece of cake.

Mardi Gras Casino is taking the tradition and putting its own spin on it.

Contestants will simply enter their name into a drawing. If chosen, you get to pick from one of five cakes to see if your cake contains the winning baby. If you are lucky enough to find the hidden baby, you’ll be rewarded with a $250 Free Play voucher for use at the WV casino.

The King Cake contest will take place between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. There will be five sessions taking place every half hour, each with a winner. Mardi Gras Casino will be awarding a total of $1,250 in casino vouchers.

If you haven’t already, mark your calendars for Mardi Gras. Luck and prosperity await.
