The Pittsburgh Steelers were both drab and triumphant during a recent five-game unbeaten streak.
They were exciting yet unsuccessful last week against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Which team will invade the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday as a medium-sized underdog?
Gamblers who back scoring props loved Pittsburgh’s 17-point explosion in a 1:25 span of the 41-37 loss to the Chargers. The burst exceeded its entire Week 10 output of a 16-16 tie with the winless Detroit Lions.
The 27-point fourth-quarter eruption matched what Pittsburgh had done in most of its recent games. And the Steelers were in position to steal a game they trailed by 14 points midway through the final quarter.
Can they carry it forward? One answer lies in the effectiveness of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He came back off the COVID-19 list, started and threw the ball effectively.
Pittsburgh Steelers Odds At WV Sportsbooks
Bettors who backed the Steelers at DraftKings West Virginia’s game time margin of +6 took their ticket to the bank.
“The line movement on that game was one of the strangest I can recall,” Johnny Avello, the director of race and sportsbook operations for DraftKings, told PlayWV. “We opened the game at Los Angeles -3. When it looked like Roethlisberger would not play, it went up to 6. You figure he’s worth three or four points to the line.
“When the word comes out Sunday that he’ll play, that went down to five for a while and then back up to 6.5 at the end. If you bet the Chargers early in the week, you were a winner. If you bet the Steelers at the end of the week, you also won.”
The Steelers look healthy again.
Many big players returned against the Chargers. Chase Claypool has come back. James Washington also played. Diontae Johnson scored and now, with a supporting cast, may become even more effective.
Tight ends Eric Ebron and Pat Freiermuth each collected a touchdown. The defense intercepted Justin Herbert to set up the tying score. The special teams blocked a punt to set up a touchdown.
The Steelers will utilize star back Najee Harris more than last week if they are not fighting from behind.
On the other side of the ball, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow loves to target rookie Ja’Marr Chase. In a Week 3 win over the Steelers, 24-10, the league’s fifth overall draft pick informed the league that he would be a top player by collecting two touchdown passes. He now has eight and is an excellent betting consideration for anytime scorer.
Joe Mixon is the top-scoring threat out of the backfield.
Bet The Steelers Through DraftKings’ Promo
The book has an interesting enticement for new users.
It’s a $100 free bet promo, paid out as four $25 free wagers. It is called “Bet $1+ on any NBA, NFL, CBB OR CFB moneyline and win $100” in the promos section. It has been running since early November and expires Sunday night.
There is no promo code needed; simply use our link.
Here’s how it works:
Make a deposit of at least $5 into your DraftKings account.
Bet at least $1 on the moneyline for any NFL, college football, college basketball or NBA game. Once any team scores, the bet wins.
Players will be issued four $25 free bets that are good for one week.
The beauty of this payout structure is the flexibility it gives gamblers. A player might take a hefty moneyline favorite with one wager, a midrange long shot with a couple of others, and perhaps a Hail Mary with a fourth.
This is an advantageous payout system over some that require the entire free event to go on one wager.
Pittsburgh Steelers Vs. Bengals Props
DraftKings put up one of the earliest. It’s for Harris to rush for over 89.5 yards and Chase to record 72.5 receiving yards.
They have each done that in other games. But in the first matchup between the teams, neither one did. Harris had 14 receptions out of the backfield.
It will be interesting to see if defensive coordinators adjust to take away what each player did well in that game.
Incidentally, Roethlisberger threw the ball a whopping 58 times in the first matchup. He likes to throw more than most and was at 44 last week. Watch and see if an attempts prop comes up at any point.
Caesars Sportsbook WV has a couple of Steeler-specific bets.
Can the Steelers tally more than 2.5 touchdowns? Yes is +145, while no is -170.
How many quarters will the Steelers win?
- One quarter +121
- Two quarters +155
- Three quarters +700
- Four quarters +3500
No quarters is +450. This is the only area in which a tie for the quarter is helpful.
If you like the Steelers and envision a tie in any quarter, look for props that have them at +0.5 for a specific quarter.
