The West Virginia Yeager International Airport is located in the Southwest part of the state in Charleston.

As soon as people from all over the country step off a plane in the Mountain State, they can wager using West Virginia online casinos. However, if people want a traditional casino experience, there’s only one location that resides close to the state’s biggest airport.

Mardi Gras Casino — 17 miles from the WV Yeager International Airport

The closest casino located to West Virginia’s international airport is Mardi Gras Casino. The facility is stationed in Cross Lanes, where it is only around 17 miles from the airport, approximately a 20-minute drive.

Mardi Gras undoubtedly gets the most visitors from travelers who are looking for gambling entertainment.

Other than Mardi Gras, there is no casino within an hour of Yeager.

The Greenbrier — 121 miles from Yeager Airport

The Greenbrier is in the Southeastern part of the state and a few miles away from the Virginia border.

However, only members and guests staying at The Greenbrier are allowed to gamble. West Virginia visitors or residents returning home would need to find another gaming option after deboarding the plane.

Wheeling Island Casino — 181 miles from Yeager Airport

Wheeling Island Casino is the third-furthest casino from the Yeager Airport and is positioned in the Northwest part of the state. At 181 miles away, the drive is close to three hours from the airport.

It is located near the Pennsylvania border by Pittsburgh, just 42 miles south of Mountaineer Casino.

Mountaineer Casino — 216 miles from Yeager Airport

Mountaineer Casino is located much closer to Ohio and Pennsylvania than anywhere else in West Virginia. It is roughly 50 miles away from downtown Pittsburgh. The establishment is in close proximity to the three PA casinos in the Pittsburgh metro area:

  • Live! Casino Pittsburgh
  • Hollywood Casino at The Meadows
  • Rivers Casino Pittsburgh

If you’re going to make the four-hour trip north to Mountaineer Casino, you’ll likely pass Wheeling Island on your way.

Hollywood Casino Charles Town — 319 miles from Yeager Airport

Hollywood Casino Charles Town is in the far north and east in WV, and is actually closer to larger cities in other states.

The Charles Town casino is positioned within reach of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The casino is about 64 miles from downtown Washington, DC and 83 miles from Baltimore.

It is roughly a five-hour drive from Yeager Airport.

Sandy’s Racing & Gaming — closer to Yeager Airport than many WV casinos

There is new entertainment that is coming for West Virginia gamblers, but it is located in Ashland, Kentucky.

Sandy’s Racing & Gaming, owned by Revolutionary Racing, is opening this month in WV’s neighboring state. Since casinos are illegal in the Bluegrass State, the facility will house Historic Horse Racing (HHR) games, which are slot-like machines, but operate as skill games.

In addition, Sandy’s Racing & Gaming is going to have a retail BetMGM Sportsbook and multiple restaurants, along with stages for concerts and comedy shows.

The new establishment is 71 miles from the Yeager Airport, which is approximately a 90-minute drive.

The airport is located in Charleston. Revolutionary Racing VP of Communications, Steve Patterson, told PlayWV last month its new spot should range that far into WV. He said:

“West Virginia residents in places like Barboursville, Teas Valley and even Charleston can expect to see marketing and community-based efforts from Sandy’s in the coming weeks.”

While the state’s largest airport doesn’t put bettors in the most ideal place, there are at least a couple of gambling options available when stepping off the plane in West Virginia.
