Though West Virginia continues to churn out impressive online casino revenue totals, it’s hit a bit of a lull. The Mountain State posted $11.6 million in August revenue, the second lowest of any month in 2023.

Even though it was a slower month, West Virginia online casinos got balanced contributions from every operator. September will be a big indicator in seeing how long this down period lasts for online operators within the state.

West Virginia online casinos produce lackluster August revenue

August’s revenue total is slightly up from July’s $11.4 million. This is the third time in four months where online casino revenue has not exceeded $12 million. Since March’s highest total of $14.3 million, revenue has dipped in the months following:

  • March: $14.3 million
  • April: $13 million
  • May: $11.6 million
  • June: $12 million
  • July: $11.4 million
  • August: $11.6 million

While numbers weren’t overly impressive, the distribution of revenue was spread pretty evenly:

Have online casinos hit a bit of a lull in West Virginia? Time will tell, especially with football season here. September figures are going to provide a lot of information regarding where online casinos stand.

Betly hopes to make impact in WV online casino market

West Virginia would have likely produced higher numbers in August had WynnBet not ceased operations in the Mountain State.

Partnering with Mardi Gras in June, the operator posted $602,346.82 in July revenue, which would have likely climbed some more over the next several months.

Even though there is no more WynnBet, Betly ended up launching as the new ninth WV online casino in August. The platform generated $349,897 in August revenue. Through the first two weeks of September, Betly reported $121,886.

Betly has some of the top slot games on the market, which include:

  • Wheel of Fortune Elegant Emeralds
  • Ruby Riches
  • Triple Gold Gold Spin
  • Hawaiian Getaway
  • Fortune Coin
  • Fortune Coin Boost Classic
  • Cleopatra Grand
  • Wild Fury Jackpots

The chances Betly competes with market leaders such as FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM are about zero, however, it doesn’t need to in order to be an online casino contributor within the state. And with high-quality WV online casino no deposit bonus offers, any operator can generate a formidable handle.

WV sportsbooks see slight uptick in August handle

Preseason football creates some excitement, causing a small spike in August handle compared to July for WV sportsbooks.

The state reported $21.3 million in August total bets, up from $19.9 million in July.

The market should be around $40 million in September handle, and soaring over that number throughout the football season. Here is what West Virginia reported last fall:

  • September 2022: $39.8 million
  • October 2022: $47 million
  • November 2022: $63.5 million
  • December 2022: $50.8 million

The busy season for sportsbooks has officially begun.
